Macon County schools: Which ethnicity was most represented in 2022-23 school year?

Among the many ethnicities represented in Macon County schools, African American was the most prevalent among Macon County students in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

Of the 1,026 students attending Macon County schools, 76.6% were African American. Hispanic students were the second most common ethnicity, making up 13.3% of Macon County student body.

In the previous school year, African American students were also the most common group in Macon County, representing 76.8% of the student body.

In the 2022-23 school year, the total number of students enrolled in public schools in the county dropped 4.5% when compared to the previous year.

As of 2024, Georgia has an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 15:1, which is better than the national average of 16:1. The state has its best student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1 in pre-kindergarten and middle school grades, while high school has an average ratio of 17:1.
